Rail Remarking: Unique Identifier Decals for Tank and Hopper Cars
Project Overview:
INPS was engaged to rebrand 2,000 railcars for Trinity Rail Leasing by changing old reporting mark decals from “TILX” to “TCBX.” This project involved using a network of installers strategically positioned across the United States. Each railcar was updated with 4 vinyl graphic pieces, which included 2 pieces of 4-inch “TCBX” and 2 pieces of 9-inch “TCBX,” all printed by INPS. Additionally, INPS provided 2 preprogrammed AEI tags per railcar. To ensure the efficiency of the project, INPS implemented a system to daily track and trace the movement of the railcars. This allowed INPS to identify the most frequented locations of the cars and coordinate with the car owners and local site supervisors for the optimal time to perform the remarking. The project emphasized rapid response time and the availability of decals to keep the railcars operational with minimal downtime.
Challenge:
One of the main challenges faced during the project was the restriction that railcars could only be remarked when they were loaded. Remarking empty railcars would incur substantial fees, which needed to be avoided. INPS successfully navigated this challenge, ensuring that all remarking was performed without incurring these additional costs. In comparison to other companies involved in the project, INPS significantly outperformed, completing over 700 railcar remarks within the first six months, while others managed only 100 cars.
Solution:
INPS demonstrated exceptional efficiency and effectiveness in the Trinity Rail Leasing Remark Project, successfully remarking over 700 railcars in the first six months and managing the entire process without incurring extra costs for the client. This project showcased INPS’s ability to manage complex, large-scale remarking tasks across multiple locations, delivering quality results within challenging constraints.
